MELBOURNE: Malaysians are foodies at heart and there’s no greater love affair than our passion for local cuisine. With this in mind, Eco World International Berhad (EcoWorld International) held the #AnakAnakMalaysia “Taste of Malaysia” event today in Melbourne to unite Malaysians in celebration of the upcoming National and Malaysia Day.
A strong crowd of over 1,500 people gathered at the site of EcoWorld International’s upcoming Yarra One development in South Yarra, Melbourne where specially selected food vendors offered tantalising dishes such as satay, roti jala, roti canai, nasi lemak, char kuey teow, mamak mee goreng and banana leaf rice.
CEO of International Business (Australia), EcoWorld International Yap Foo Leong said that the team was proud to bring the #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign to Melbourne and promote our beloved Malaysian cuisine there.
“With a wide selection of Malaysian food stalls and entertainment, the #AnakAnakMalaysia “Taste of Malaysia” is truly a great get-together for all Malaysians in Melbourne,” he said.
The event also featured a special live cooking demonstration by MasterChef Australia 2017 winner, Diana Chan who treated guests to her creation of nasi ulam and joo hoo char (a Nyonya delicacy). The event also had singing performances by Malaysian students and two competitions – the Longest Teh Tarik Pull and Fastest Ais Krim Potong Eater.
The #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign started in 2015, with one of Malaysia’s top property developers Eco World Development Group Berhad and the country’s leading English daily The Star joining forces to encourage fellow Malaysians to wear the AnakAnakMalaysia wristbands to express their patriotism.
The campaign took social media platforms by storm and spurred the organisers to do better last year by holding the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk. Held at Bukit Bintang City Centre in Kuala Lumpur, the 3.4km walk drew an astounding crowd of close to 6,000 proud Malaysians. This year, the campaign returns in an even bigger celebration than before. The #AnakAnak Malaysia Walk 2017 will be held on 27 August at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam.
Another feat planned this year is the distribution of a record one million wristbands fully sponsored by EcoWorld and designed by local cartoonist Reggie Lee. Throughout this campaign, Malaysians are encouraged to creatively express their patriotism by sharing photos and videos of themselves posing with the band on social media platforms including Facebook and a dedicated campaign website at www.anakanakmalaysia.com
